As a collaborative work, Undercurrent explores the impression of memory, time, and space, through interdisciplinary recordings of photography, sound, and sculpture. Four toe toe growing in the Ayrlies Wetlands of Tāmaki Makaurau stand as the subject of the work, represented through the four clay vessels shaped by the memory of the environment. The sound of a the wetlands emanates from the vessels into the space, ever-changing as one moves around the work, exploring the Wetlands through the recordings captured. A 4×5 photographs sit on either side while another projects across the space, enveloping all in the site of the toe toe. Undercurrent is a collection of documentation, embroidered together to create an experience of the impression of memory.
