Sound Art Creating

Inspired by the work of J. Cardiff I have made a set of recordings with stones for my Installation work, Album of Memories. To create an audio installation I need speakers to projects the sounds However, it is vital that I am intentional about the speakers that I use.

in the same way objects and material used in sculpture bring in there own connotations into a space so will the form of speaker bring its own connotation into the work.

I don’t want to hide the speaker in my work rather I want them to play a physical part within the installation. so I will need to find speaker that will compliment my work. I had initially though I would loan some speakers. At one point I was looking online for second hand speakers though nothing seem to be attainable or compliment the work.

I have Bluetooth speaker at home that project the sound really well however these would have a huge amount of unneeded connotation rough into the space. I have to put my problem solving hat on in order to figure out my step forwad

I have gathered material found in my home to make a set of speakers that carry the immediate look of a speaker but are far from it. The “speakers” would have my Bluetooth speakers hidden behind the fabric casing. The design of the speakers had one side where the sound would come from just like a bookshelf speaker. Overall, I found my makeshift speaker to be a supportive piece within my work. The height they were made is also my head height – An important note when considering the artists hand in the work and the personification role that the speakers held. Roles; collector and collection.
